A Comic Ditty by Sam Graham

Lonely Lisa drawn by my friend and comics collaborator, Sam Graham!

The title character is a precursor to his animated web series, Creepy Caleb:

Sam and I have been making comics together for almost a decade. We were once closed off from the rest of the world in a studio in the seedy art district of downtown L.A. with two other collaborators: Perry J. Kneisel and S. Tyler Stafford. Together, with the help of a super movie star, we created a graphic novel, Hotah.

That was the first time our dreams became realities.

Before that, we were kicked out of Amoeba Records for selling zines!

2015 Purge of Sketches

image

This last year was a dark year. A lot of stress and anxiety and fear about money, love and creativity. Despite the external pains, I still continued to put pencil and pen to paper!
The result of my frantic sketching is a couple reams of now unusable paper… and some personal sketches that I like a lot!
Please let me share them with you…

As you can see, there was a lot of penciled faces 🙂
A lot of these images are characters from stories in my mind, slowly being put down to the page inch by inch.
My hand moves, but Time is faster.

I’ll leave you with my favorite poem…

When I have fears that I may cease to be
Before my pen has gleaned my teeming brain,
Before high-pilèd books, in charactery,
Hold like rich garners the full ripened grain;
When I behold, upon the night’s starred face,
Huge cloudy symbols of a high romance,
And think that I may never live to trace
Their shadows with the magic hand of chance;
And when I feel, fair creature of an hour,
That I shall never look upon thee more,
Never have relish in the faery power
Of unreflecting love—then on the shore
Of the wide world I stand alone, and think
Till love and fame to nothingness do sink.

-John Keats
